Visa Application Fee:
EUR 60 payable in GBP only. Currently £51.40. (Free for spouses or children of EU nationals OR for children aged 6 or under).
An additional Service fee of £24 is payable for applications made at VFS. This is applicable to all including spouses or children of EU nationals.
Applicants can pay their visa fees in Cash or by Credit/Debit card (only at the VFS Visa Application Centre) or Postal Orders in the name of "Italy Visa Application Centre".
Cheques are not accepted.
Documents Required:
Application Form
Completed and signed application form with 1 recent passport size photo against light background. Coin operated Photocopier and Photo Booth are available for use at the VFS Centre in London.
Passport
Need to be valid for more than 3 months beyond the validity of the requested visa, with 2 blank pages to affix the visa sticker. British Residence Permit must also exceed by more than 3 months the validity of the requested visa. Passports older than 10 years are not accepted.
Accommodation
Fully booked and paid hotel reservation.
Transportation
Fully booked return flight tickets. A travel itinerary is required if visiting more than one country.
Financial Means
Last 3 months statements of UK current account or traveller's cheques showing funds of a minimum of £30 (varies based on the number of days spent) per person per day to be spent in the Schengen area.

Status Proof
Original Letter, not older than 1 month, from employer/school/university/college where applicable. This letter should be addressed to ‘The Consulate General of Italy' and be signed by the authorized person named in the letter. Pay slips for the last 3 months also need to be submitted.
If self employed then a letter from solicitor/Bank manager/Accountant/Local chamber of commerce is to be submitted.
If unemployed or a dependent then all the above documents of the Spouse must be provided along with proof of relationship (Marriage Certificate).
Travel Insurance
Travel insurance for the whole period of travel with a minimum amount of EUR 30,000 covering any medical, hospitalisation and repatriation costs valid for all member Schengen states.
Letter of Invitation
Required only if the applicant has been invited by a private person or visiting friends and family. A signed letter of invitation by their host in Italy attached with a photocopy of the host's valid I.D. or residence permit in Italy if the host is non EU-citizen.
Self addressed mail
A self-addressed pre-paid special delivery envelope for the return of the passport if the applicant desires it to be sent back by post.
Postal Application:
Postal applications not accepted by any Italian Consulate in the UK.
Visa Application Procedure:
All applicants should apply in person. On arriving the visa application centre, they will be required to take a token at the entrance and be seated in the waiting area. They should approach the Submission Counters when their token number is displayed. The officers at the counter will collect the visa application form to check for completion and photograph to see if it meets the required specifications. The passport will be checked for validity, empty pages and previous travel information. The fees will be collected in accordance with the visa category chosen and the documents submitted will be readied in the manner in which they are required by the Consulate General of Italy. Finally, the applicant will be issued a receipt for the fees and service charge paid as an acknowledgement. An acknowledgement of the acceptance of the passport in the form of a stamped copy of the passport biodata page will also be given to the applicant.
If the applicant desires the passport to be posted back then they may purchase the Special Delivery facility for the return of processed applications at a fee of £7.40 (Inclusive of VAT) per application.
Visa Collection Procedure:
Applicants will need to bring the receipt and the Italian Visa Application Centre stamped passport biodata page on the second day after the submission of application anytime between 2pm-3pm, Monday to Friday to check for the status or collection of the application.
Applicants can also send an immediate member of their family if they are unable to make it in person. A letter of authorization by the applicant and proof of relationship will be required to allow their relative to collect on their behalf.
General Visa Information:
- Photocopies of all supporting documents need to be submitted with the application. Originals submitted along with the application with not be returned.
- Italian Consulate states that it is NOT their policy to deliver multiple entry visas for tourism purposes.
- If the applicant is applying for their first Schengen visa then a visa is normally issued for one entry. Once the applicant has made one visit in accordance with the visa granted then they may apply for two or more entries provided they can provide the documentation for these visits.
- Visa will not be issued the same day as the submission of application.
