Visa Appointment Procedure:
Appointments can be booked by calling 09065771222 (Calls cost £1.50 per minute from BT landlines). The line operates between 8.30 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday.
Swiss Consulates in the UK do not issue visas or deal with visa enquiries. Visas are issued only by the Embassy in London.
Visa Application Fee:
EUR 60 payable in Pounds. Currently GBP 62.
Free for: Minors under the age of 6 years, School pupils, students and accompanying teachers on study or educational trips, Researchers, Spouse and children of EU nationals.
Only cash or Postal order issued to the Embassy of Switzerland accepted.
Cheques and credit cards are not accepted.
Documents Required:
Application Form
Completed and signed application form with 2 recent passport size photos.
Passport
Need to be valid for more than 3 months beyond the validity of the requested visa, with 1 blank page to affix the visa sticker. British Residence Permit must also exceed by more than 3 months the validity of the requested visa. A copy of the UK resident permit is also to be provided.
Accommodation
Hotel reservation or package tour confirmation by travel agent.
Transportation
A confirmed airline or rail ticket or e-ticket.
Financial Means
Proof of sufficient funds during the stay.
Minimum of GBP 30 per day per person to be shown.
3 months recent bank statements/last pay slip.
Cash and credit card statements are not acceptable proof.
Status Proof
Recent letter of employment or recent student enrolment confirmation on a original letterhead.
Travel Insurance
Proof of health insurance (travel insurance) with a minimum medical coverage GBP
25,000 to cover the whole period of the visa. The document should include the following information: name of the applicant, duration of the insurance and cover details. A policy number only is not sufficient.
Letter of Invitation
Required only if the applicant has been invited by a private person or visiting friends and family. An invitation and copy from the host in Switzerland and copy of the residence
permit (if the host is not Swiss) sent or faxed directly to the Embassy (Fax Number: 02077239581 or a formal obligation (Verpflichtungserklärung) from the host in Switzerland.
Self addressed mail
Prepaid and self-addressed registered delivery envelope.
Postal Application:
Only applicants residing outside the M25 can apply by post. However, priority in processing will be given to applicants visiting the Embassy in person.
Visa Application Procedure:
Visa applications have to be made in person at Embassy of Switzerland, 16-18 Montagu Place, London, W1H 2BQ between 9am to 12pm on the date of appointment.
Photocopies of all documents are to be provided at the time of application.
Visa Collection Procedure:
The passport can be collected on the on the date indicated at the time of submission between 09.00 and 12.00 hrs, Monday to Friday except declared holidays.
If the applicant desires the passport to be posted back then a prepaid, self-addressed, stamped envelope for registered delivery needs to be provided during the application submission. This request needs to be made at the time of submitting the application and cannot be requested at a later date. If a prepaid envelope cannot be provided then £5 will be charged by the embassy.
If the applicant is unable to collect the passport personally then a relative or friend can collect it on the applicant's behalf provided they bring stamped passport copy, receipt and an authority letter from the applicant in the name of the person picking up the passport.
General Visa Information:
Applications can be made up to 90 days prior to the date of travel however Swiss Embassy recommends to apply at least 3 weeks prior to the date of travel to accommodate any unforeseen processing delays.
Visas are granted for a maximum of 90 days at a time.
Switzerland has joined the Schengen visa scheme on 12th December 2008.
